John Robert Priestley
Guardsman John Robert Priestley was born in Scredington, Lincolnshire on 24th June 1938. John joined the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards on 1st May 1958 and served 3 years of regular service, leaving on 1st May 1961. He then served a further 4 years of reserve service from May 1961 until April 1965. Unfortunately little is known of his regular service by his family, only that he was proud to have been a Grenadier Guard.
On leaving the regiment John was described as a very good Guardsman who was a 1st Class Driver and generally a good Soldier. He was complemented on being a loyal, honest and hard working individual.
After leaving service he met and married Barbara Bradshaw who would be his life long love. John became a farmer and they settled in the North Hykeham area of Lincoln where they raised 7 children and numerous grandchildren. John passed away peacefully after a short illness in Lincoln hospital with family present, on the 7th August 2015
