RQMS Howarth (Tex) joined the Army at the end of the war in 1945. He enlisted atManchester which was one of the Regiment’s main recruiting areas. He joined the 1st Bn. and became a member of the King’s Company. He was soon promoted and rose to become RQMS. During his career he served in all three Battalions and as a Company Sergeant Major at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. On his retirement in 1978 he joined the Queen’s Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard in which he served until 1997: being awarded the RVM. He was a very smart and outstanding soldier. He was happily married and retired to live in Warminster. He was a most amusing and interesting person. He will be much missed by his many friends and we offer to his family our deepest sympathy.
