A greatly respected Superintending Clerk, Quartermaster and General Secretary of the Association Peter William Edward Parry died on 13th January, 2007. He was born in Eccles, Near Manchester On 5th January, 1926 enlisting into the Regiment in ’the ranks and was eventually appointed TheSuperintending Clerk of the Regiment in March 1958. At 32years of age he was the youngest person to have held that appointment. Peter continued in that appointment until 1963 when he was commissioned into the Regiment and was posted to the lst Battalion in Germany as MTO. Whilst with the Battalion during their tour of duty in Cyprus as part of the United Nations Force Peter was awarded the MBE in recognition of his outstanding service to the Regiment. On leaving the Battalion he was posted to the Guards Depot as the PSO. He remained in this appointment until his retirement from the Regiment in 1969. After a period in commerce Peter was approached by the Regiment in 1974 to accept the post of General Secretary of the Association. He accepted and carried out sterling work travelling all over the Country attending Branch Meetings and Dinners ably assisted by the wife Hazel. He continued in this appointment until 1980 when he became Secretary for the Corporation of Church House. Coupled with this he was also Secretary of Pratts Club. He stayed in these appointments until his final retirement in 1991. Peter is survived by his wife Hazel whom he married in 1945. Also their two children Pauline and Steven together with Grand and Great Grand Children. Peter was a truly great Grenadier and a wonderful person. He will be sadly missed by his Family and the many many friends he made throughout his life.
