GILCHRIST, G (23443730)

Corp George Gilchrist, Born in Jarrow, Tyne and Wear on 14th November 1935. The first Grenadier Guard in his family, but the last Grenadier Guard in a long line of his wife's Ileene nee Bruce's side of the family. Having joined the Navy as a junior engineer he found he had no stomach for the sea so he came out and was immediately taken on for his National Service, which was a surprise thinking he had done his bit.  He joined the 1st Battalion Queen s Company in 1958 until 1960 and during 1960 Dad transferred to the Northumberland Hussars to bring him back to the North East After leaving the regiment he remained in the T. A. for over 20 odd years Dad's civilian jobs were different until he found the best job in the North East. He drove the 32 ton tankers for Shell Mex and BP which split and he remained with BP until his retirement in 1987. He remained living in South Shields and was a doting Grandfather to Kieron aged 10 yrs now as well as Alexandra and Connor, now 17 & 22 yrs old. He remained in South Shields where he lived with his wife Ileene and 3 daughters Karen born 61 Ileene Born 63 and Kay born 66. He remained active until January 2012 On Monday 4th February 2013 Dad passed onto Heaven He is survived by Ileene Gilchrist his wife. 3 Daughters and 3 Grandchildren. Dad married his sweetheart my Mam and they were married for 54 years.
