Sgt Victor G Newman was born in Middlesex on 25th Feb. 1887. Victor first saw service as a Corporal of Horse in the Household Battalion during WW1,His Regimental number was 483.After the battalion was disbanded at the end of the war, he joined the 2nd Battalion, Grenadier Guards. Victor has special mention in the book 'The Diary of a Forgotten Battalion’ BY GERALD WILLIAM HARVEY. Victor retired from the Regiment to Uxbridge, Middlesex where he was caretaker of St Andrews hall.He died on the 12th April 1972. Survived by his Wife Rose, 5 children and many Grandchildren. The attached photo is SGT Newman leading the funeral possession of Lord Kitchener on horseback in April 1916
